Driver disk for OKIPAGE 4W
Driver Version 1.24 29/4/96
This file provides information that may help you in getting the
best use from your printer, but which was available too late for
inclusion in the printed documentation.
* Under Windows 95, the recommended installation method is to
run the OKI Setup program SETUP.EXE from the supplied driver
disks via Start->Run.. Although the printer driver can be
installed using the "Add Printer" icon via Start->Settings->
Printers (the "Add Printer Wizard"), this is more time
consuming and it is not possible to set the LPT port or
printer name via the Add Printer Wizard. These must instead
be set using the OKI Setup program which is automatically
started by the Add Printer Wizard.
* Under Windows 95, some bidirectional software cannot use the
same parallel port while the OKIPAGE 4w software is installed.
You must de-install the driver using the SETUP program if you
wish to use such software on the same port. Alternatively,
it is sufficient to comment out the line:
device=C:\OKIPAGE\VHSD95.386
in the SYSTEM.INI file, replacing it by:
;device=C:\OKIPAGE\VHSD95.386
and then restart Windows 95.
When you want to return to using the OKIPAGE 4w printer,
simply remove the semi-colon from the start of the line and
restart Windows.
Similarly, you must deactivate other bidirectional software
which uses the same parallel port before you can use the
OKIPAGE 4w. If you do not, you will see a "Port Conflict"
message on the OKIPAGE 4w Status Monitor, indicating that
some other software is accesing the parallel port.
* After installation under Windows 95, you must set the
OKIPAGE 4w as the default printer before beginning to print.
This can be done via Start->Settings->Printers, where you
should select the OKIPAGE 4w icon and then choose "Set As
Default" under the File menu
* If the OKIPAGE 4w Status Monitor is displaying the message
"Initialisation Error" (because the OKIPAGE 4w printer is
not properly connected or is switched off), you will notice
that there is some slowing down of Windows. This is due to
the OKIPAGE 4w continually trying to communicate with the
printer. To avoid this, select "Close" on the OKIPAGE 4w
Status Monitor, or select another printer driver as the
default.
* If the driver is installed under Windows 3.1 and the PC is
then upgraded to Windows 95, it will be necessary to de-
install the driver and then to rerun the OKI SETUP program.
to install the correct Windows 95 driver components.
* When printing this file from NOTEPAD at 600dpi, text may be
clipped at the left hand margin. To avoid this, change the
margin settings in the Page Setup menu.
* After installing the printer driver under Windows 95,
Windows 95 may still display a message prompting you to
install a driver for the OKIPAGE 4w. You should select "Do
not install a driver...".
* Occasionally after power-on, the Status Monitor may display
"Initialisation Error", even although the printer is properly
connected. If this is the case, click the "Retry" button on
the Status Monitor and the display will change to "Ready" or
"Warming Up". It is normal for the Status Monitor to display
"Driver Shut Down" during the first few seconds after Windows
is started until the driver can be initialised.
* Under Windows 95, logging off then on as a different user
prevents the Status Monitor from communicating with the
Virtual Device Driver. To solve this, select "Restart the
Computer" from the Shutdown... menu.
* It is not possible to use the Control Panel to change the LPT
port used by the printer. This must be selected at
installation, using the OKI Setup program.
* With some applications, the choice of number of copies made
via the Printer Setup will be ignored for the first print job.
To avoid this, set the number of copies using the applications
Page Setup (or similar) dialog.
* It may be possible to select output resolution from inside
your application (e.g. Draft mode, High quality etc.). This
may override the resolution setting via the Printer Setup
dialogs, so please verify this if output resolution seems to
be different to that which you requested.
* Fill patterns may vary according to the print resolution. In
general, the pattern will be smaller at 600dpi, while at
150dpi the pattern will be larger.
* The OKIPAGE 4w printer driver may spool files to disk, which
will cause files with names such as P0000001.HBP to be created
in the OKIPAGE directory on the hard disk. Normally these
files will be deleted once the job has been printed, but if
the computer is switched off or restarted while a print job is
in progress, these files will not be deleted automatically.
If this occurs, you should delete these files yourself so that
hard disk space is not used unnecessarily.
* If you change the number of lines per page via the DOS
Emulation page of the OKIPAGE 4w Operator Panel and then
change the Paper Size via the Paper Input page of the Operator
Panel, you will find that the number of lines per page will be
updated to preserve the same margin at the foot of the page on
the new paper size. This only affects printing from DOS
applications.
